Volleyball, Soccer and Cornhole Tournament, Triathlon, 5K Run, 1K Walk and Island Bike Tour
June 20, 2009

The Lake Erie Island Fest is a culmination of social events that happen on Middle Bass Island near Put-in-Bay twice a summer. It's a weekend long festival that starts with a player's party on Friday night, a sporting event of your choice on Saturday followed up with another player's party on Saturday evening. It's a great way to combine your love for the islands with the sport of your choice. And all sporting events occur on the same field; creating a surreal social environment. Add the DJ and the band to the field and it’s a truly festive environment like no other. In 2008 we offered Volleyball and Cornhole. In 2009, we are working on adding a soccer tournament, triathlon, 5K run, 1K walk, an island bike tour with different stops and a bar Olympics for the party people. There are different levels of competition to accomodate all types of play. Our recreational level is for players who play maybe once a year. In this division you will find people dressed up in funny costumes and matching goofy shirts. Our Open division is for those players are very proficient at their sport. And we have everything in between. If you have any questions, please contact me at andy@lakeerieislandfest.com.

The Next Lake Erie Island Fest is June 20, 2009. Stay tuned for further details.

August 23, 2008 LEIF a HUGE Success!!

I don't know where to begin. What an unbelievable weekend playing volleyball and cornhole on Middle Bass Island and at St. Hazards. I met so many great people, it felt like I was having one of my volleyball parties in my own backyard. Here is a summary of the weekends events:

Friday - Let's get this party started. We rolled out the first keg of Magic Hat #9 beer around 6:30pm and soon the word was out. The music was pumping and the beer was flowing. People were playing flip cup and beer pong. We played music and themeshow trivia and I gave away around $500 in Dave and Buster's VIP cards. What a great way to kick off the weekend. And what a horrible way to wake up the next morning!!

Saturday - The volleyball and cornhole tournaments started around 10:00am. We handed out the tournament shirts and everyone loved them. I even had offers to buy them from people not even involved with the tournament. The weather was a little hotter than normal, I played 13 games and must have drank 3 gallon jugs of water and numerous Gatorades. Our band Joe and J played which added a nice little change to the tournament.

Volleyball Associates really did a great job with the volleyball tournament and keep things running like clockwork. Most nets were finished up by 5:00 since the tournament start early. And 1st and 2nd place in all divisions received cash prizes, Dave and Buster's VIP cards and their choice of a Volleyball Associates shirt.

And it couldn't have went any better on the cornhole side either, thanks to all of those who helped with the cornhole. They finished up around 2:30 and the 1st place team received $400 in cash and prizes. 2nd place took home $200 in cash and prizes. Not bad for our first tournament with only 18 teams. After seeing the tournament first hand and the overall vibe, some of the cornhole guys think we call pull 200+ teams for June of 2009. If I get that many teams, expect the 1st place prized to be worth in the area of $2000 - $3000.

After everyone showered, the party continued at St. Hazards in their great Tiki bar. If you were a partcipant in the LEIF, you received some great drink specials.

Sunday - Hated to the leave "The Bass" but it was time to go home.
